Compact cameras have improved to such a degree that it is now possible to to produce portrait photographs that look as though they have been taken by a professonal photographer using far more expensive cameras. This can be applied to portrait photography which has traditionally been done with an SLR camera. Where portrait photography differs from other styles such as landscapes is the added ingredient of the human factor. Portraying someone as they see themselves can be very hard to achieve.
