The Advantages Of Digital Photo Editing Software

Digital Photos have opened up a completely new world, enabling us to 'touch up ' our valued memories, remove failings to make us look better or maybe create ludicrous effects for a little bit of fun. The times of waiting till your film was processed to discover how your photographs turned out, and then being stuck with what you had, are completely in the rear mirror. Nowadays, you can crop out unwelcome items / folks from your footage, adjust skin tone, change colours and usually do more with a photograph after it is taken than you ever... Read full post here

Wedding Photography Tips - Photographing The Ceremony

If the ceremony is being done ‘on location’ – like at a home, a park, a beach, etc. this simplifies things a lot. If you can't shoot during the actual ceremony you may be able to shoot some posed shots after the ceremony in the church. Talk to the priest or minister before hand and ask if you can come back after the bouquet is thrown and do a few shots. You’ll never know unless you ask. This usually includes arriving at the church in the limo – but if you... Read full post here

The 123 of Digital Imaging Review

About two years ago my friend Pete and I decided to put up this site. It was mainly in answer to a bunch of friends, family and other associates constant nagging questions about photography. The reasoning was that if we put everything we knew on a website then all we have to do would be to refer them or anyone else to that. Job's done! It was always our intention to then find a suitable product to recommend for further and more formal study as we are great believers in getting the basics right from the... Read full post here

Batteries for Cameras

Perhaps the most difficult problem that most clients face when getting a digicam is that the battery life is typically extraordinarily short. Alkaline batteries are drained within a few minutes by most cameras. The reason for that is that cameras pull a lot of energy quickly from the battery and alkaline batteries are not designed for such fast spurts of power. For those that have electronic cameras that accept AA type batteries I suggest using Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. They work best with digicams, are rechargeable up to 1000 times, and have no problems with a memory effect like Nickel... Read full post here

Wedding Photography Tips - Shots After the Wedding

Preparing the Proofs. If the end product is to be an audio-visual presentation using slideshow software or basic video editing software, or a series of hard copy prints, you should provide a disk that acts as a ‘proof’, so the bride and groom can choose what pictures they want used or printed. Arrange the content of the disk in a logical sequence, and title each folder: “At the Hotel…” The Ceremony…” etc. Do your own Quality Control sweep first, so you're not cluttering up the good shots with the duds. This makes selection easier and makes you... Read full post here

Wedding Photography Tips - Shots at The Reception

Okay now you are really into straight reportage and flash country if it is being held indoors. You can sneak about and shoot candid moments while your shrimp cocktail becomes one with the universe, but here are the main shots: At the Head Table Bride and groom looking lovingly/lustfully into each other's eyes. Bride and groom toasting each other. Bride and groom looking intelligent while they listen to someone beside them drone on and on… Bride and groom eating…. Do not shoot these pix... Black and White Photography Tips p.2

Black and white works in shades or tones of gray. You need a pure white and a pure black somewhere in the image to anchor your tonal range. Too little tonal separation and you have a ‘flat’ image. Too much and you have an image that is more like a poster - too ‘hard’ or too contrasty. Black and white photos makes you focus your attention more on shapes, forms, lines etc. You have to think with and compose by forms, scenic elements... Read full post here

Try to Engage Emotionally with Your Subject or Subject Matter

If you are shooting people and simply take snaps of them representing nothing in particular all you are doing is creating a document. You might as well just write a note to yourself that "George was in the living room." Take a moment to identify your feelings towards the subject or observe the subject's feelings towards themselves, their environment or others around them. In other words look at what you are seeing and "see" something, something worth communicating through the final image. Read full post here

Photo composition is really very simple. There are probably many theories but here's the rule I was taught that has always worked for me. Photographic Composition - The Rule: For whatever reason, when looking at an image the human eye travels from the bottom right-hand corner diagonally towards the top left hand corner unless something interrupts it. Take a look at the fruit and vegetables picture: There's a tricky little shadow in the bottom right hand corner that ‘points’ to the green shape beside it and the rest of the pieces are... Candid Photography Tips

Candid means frank, honest, open, truthful and sincere - how does that work with a camera? Candid photography means you just shoot what you see - no rearranging the composition or using models - the photographer is "there" with the subject or scene and records it faithfully. Usually a candid photo also means a standard lens like a 40mm or 50mm on an SLR - the human eye is 40mm so photographic genuises like Cartier-Bresson used a 40mm lens on his Leica exclusively, so as to capture the 'moment', which is really what candid is all about. ...
